WORLD INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY DAY 2018 – POWERING CHANGE: WOMEN IN INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY

According to a study by the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, fewer than eight percent of patents list women as the primary inventor. Researchers attribute the patent gender gap to a shortage of women in science, technology, engineering, and math fields—and by extension to the lack of women who earn degrees in these areas, compared with men.

At Triangles, we aim to change this. We help women start their side businesses and take their (first, second, 15th or final steps) steps toward entrepreneurism. We aim to be the stepping stones to help women feel welcomed in these (generally) male dominated fields. Additionally, we promote female founders and entrepreneurs once they have achieved success. We cannot do this alone. That is why we are calling on male champions to join in on the efforts.

Beyond this, how do we close the patent gender gap? We start by lowering the barriers to entry. One major barrier being cost. This is what IPwe is doing. We are lowering the costs of filing, financing, maintaining, acquiring and licensing patents. We are taking power away from large monopolies that dominate the patent space, and giving it back to the people to innovate – as patents were initially intended to do. This will allow more women and minorities to join the patent space.

Additionally, blockchain technology is enabling the largest power transfer we have seen in our lifetimes. Not just early adopters of cryptocurrency, but the majority population at large stand to greatly benefit through a redistribution of power. Not only financially, but means of access to the tools with which they can participate as value creators and collaborators in an efficient global economy free of centralized interference by corrupted ‘powers.’

With this transfer, women and minorities have an opportunity to take back a larger share of power. But we need your help.

Please join us in our efforts to redistribute the power and educate the broader community that women and minorities can partake in blockchain. Women and minorities can partake in science, technology, engineering, and math fields. Women and minorities can be inventors, entrepreneurs, creators.
