IPwe at SZSE Global Investor Service Week
From 24-28 May 2021, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange (SZSE) Global Investor Service Week delivered a wealth of cross-border investment knowledge and insights in the form of keynote speeches and roundtable discussions. Nearly 100 industry experts and global investors were in attendance.
SZSE invited leaders from financial institutions, services and fintech companies – including CITIC Securities, Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Dachen Venture Capital, Shenzhen Venture Capital Research Center and IPwe China.
The event focused on fast-moving innovative and integrated developments of capital markets in China’s Greater Bay Area (GBA), technological innovation and cooperation of capital markets, multi-asset investment strategy in SZSE, innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem and cross-border investment, purposed to provide insights and encourage participation in China’s capital market by global investors.
Henry Wang, President of IPwe China Operations, lead a round-table discussion on ‘How to better serve small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) to maximize their innovative ability during a rapid time of change,’ highlighting the crucial role that IP plays for SMEs in China’s digital era.
When asked about the outlook of Intellectual Property in the context of innovation surrounding China’s Greater Bay Area, Henry commented, “As the forefront of China’s reform and opening up, the Greater Bay Area has been the most active in the process of Chinese enterprises’ going global over the past 40 years. Looking at the other bay areas in the world, Silicon Valley is mainly focused on technology, New York is more financial, Tokyo is very developed in manufacturing, but only the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area is more comprehensive…”
Henry added, “On the one hand, it is the global manufacturing center and has a very comprehensive industry chain; on the other hand, it also has Hong Kong as one of the global financial centers. This advantage will help the Greater Bay Area to build a new innovation-led ecology in the next 5-15 years, in which we are already seeing the value of IP being widely discussed and discovered.”
At the end of the forum, Henry summarized, “SMEs play a very important role in today’s nation-wide innovation in China. Integrating more than 20 years of technology, experience and our global partnership network, IPwe has opened up its capabilities to the entire industry and developed an industrial Internet platform that can remove barriers to enable SMEs to participate in the IP market, and further empower all types of players in the IP and innovation market.“
In recent years, SZSE has worked to connect and enrich participation channels for foreign investors, helped by the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect (December 2016), inclusion in the MSCI Emerging Markets Index (June 2018 & 2019) and the FTSE Global Equity Index Series, and connecting SZSE by means of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong and China-Japan ETF Connect in 2020 and 2021, providing diversified choices to cross-border investors[i].
